Have you ever thought about volunteering to help a local cause? Do you have a couple of hours from time to time that you could devote to helping people in need?

And would you like to meet new people?

If your answer to these questions is ‘yes’, then Ilfracombe Town Council’s Volunteer Coordinator, would like to hear from you.

We are running four different volunteer programmes to help people in Ilfracombe, ranging from lifts to medical appointments and supporting carers to tidying up the town centre and helping to trim gardens.

Ilfracombe Town Council will provide you with any training you may need and will support you every step of the way. Better still, there are a range of benefits to making time for others who need help. Here are just a few of them:

Give your CV a boost.

A survey of some of the UK’s leading businesses found that 73% would employ someone who’s volunteered over someone who hasn’t[1]

Get back into work

Volunteering is a great way to get a reference and fill gaps in your work experience.

Improve your health

While you’re busy giving back to your community you could also be getting healthier!  Research has found that volunteering can do improve your physical and mental wellbeing.[2]

Meet new people

By becoming part of our team of volunteers, you’ll meet people from a wide range of backgrounds, who all share your willingness to help those in need.

When it comes to practical help, we are looking for volunteers for with any of our four programmes:

Community car service: A formal part of Ilfracombe Town Council’s daily activities, the community car service has been driving people to healthcare appointments across Devon for more than a decade.

Town Hygiene Operatives: An equally flexible volunteering role is available with the Council’s Town Maintenance team. Our Volunteer Town Hygiene Operatives give whatever time they can to help keep the streets and green areas clean and tidy.

Time for You: This service aims to help full-time carers by providing a volunteer who can stay for a couple of hours with the person being cared for – and give the carer time to meet friends, go shopping, or do any other activity away from home.

Gardening Angels: A group of gardening volunteers will come together to spend a few hours turning what was a sad wilderness into a garden that brings a little happiness for an elderly/infirm resident in Ilfracombe.

If you would like to find out more about the volunteering opportunities with Ilfracombe Town Council, just email Sarah.Maddocks@northdevon.gov.uk to arrange an informal chat.
