Over a thousand years of history pre-dates the annual Barnstaple Fair, and the last 200 years has seen an opening ceremony at The Guildhall in Barnstaple.
I was invited along to represent Ilfracombe at the Fair Proclamation and join the procession through the streets of Barnstaple.
The picture shows the traditional hand of friendship, a floral glove, that appears from an upstairs window of the Guildhall at the start of the procession. Thereafter all head off to the South West’s biggest funfair on Seven Brethren Car Park.
It was lovely to be a part of this great tradition.
