Happy Christmas everyone!

I have been asked several times today whether Santa and I are related. I don’t know why anyone would think that!  Wink, wink…

I am delighted to be asked to open the first ever Ilfracombe Winter Wonderland Event and I would like to thank everyone involved in the organisation and preparation. Also to all the local businesses who have contributed in whatever way to make this event a truly magical addition to Ilfracombe at Christmas.

I was asked to open this event last year. It was to be the first of it’s kind in Ilfracombe, born out of good friends having a vision of what could be done if they all pulled together. They all worked really hard at it and, as is often the case, were beset with problems. However they overcame every problem and the event was a GO! Then along came Storm Darragh and the event had to be cancelled. Many would have given up at that point, disheartened after all that hard work. BUT they didn’t! They dusted themselves off and came back with a bigger and bolder event for this year. Let’s hope it becomes a regular Ilfracombe event every year!

The organisers have planned many attractions for you, not only the spectacular lights and decorations but also the chance to see Santa for FREE in grotto, write a letter in the post office and browse around the craft and games stalls and grab a drink or bite to eat whilst you look at the beautiful decorations.

Christmas can be an expensive time for all of us, so to be able to provide this event completely free for everyone to enjoy is a credit to the organisers and especially to Alison and her team of helpers who work hard all year round to keep the park in such lovely condition.

Come on in and enjoy! Winter Wonderland is open!
