The Towns Civic service was held on Sunday 21st April. It was good to get the event back on the calendar, as we haven’t held one for while.

The sun shone as we welcomed Civic dignitaries and leaders from surrounding towns and parishes, representatives of the Council and other community and voluntary organisations.

Father John Roles led the service and the Choir at the Parish Church sounded amazing.

We then headed to the beautiful Tunnels beaches where the highlight was the award of Honorary Freeman of the Town of Ilfracombe being presented to Mr Rod Donovan.

Rod has been a real driving force for the Council over the last 40 years, having served as a Councillor and Mayor and responsible for a lot of the good work that has gone on behind the scenes.

He may have retired as a Councillor but he is still involved as the Chair of One Ilfracombe.

It was an honour to present the award to a very deserving, humble, hard-working friend.

The day was a great success and I would like to thank everyone involved.
